Is getting a monroe piercing safe?

I was thinking I wanted to get a monroe piercing for my Christmas Present from my mom, but of course being a concerned parent she wants all the facts, good, and bad. So before I call our local piercing parlor (who I hear is very reptutable) I thought I would come on here and ask a few questions first before I give them a shot. My first main concern is will I be able to wear makeup during the healing process? I have a few acne bleshimes I cover up with some simple concealer and powder. I would be doing this over my winter break and would have 18 days of no school, so in that given time I won't be wearing makeup and letting the piercing heal somewhat. Second is, how long does it generally take to heal? Third, What is the chance of infection with proper aftercare? And is it possible to do any severe damage to my face if infection does occur? Fourth, If I ever plan too take out the piercing to let it heal (most likley won't unless infection does happen) will the scar be very noticable? My skin I've noticed doesn't scar easily, so I think this is least of my concerns. Any other information on this piercing would be greatly appreciated.

In finding all the facts on body peircings I was able to get my naval pierced two years ago at 14, and am very happy with that and have not gotten ANY infection whatsoever. So I hope this is the same outcome.

If you have gotten your navel pierced and it healed fine, then you body "allows" piercings. If you take proper care it should be fine, and that would be a negative on the make-up it is best to do without, if possible. It is best to keep it clean and it should be fine. I have not heard of much problems with monroe piercing.
Reply:it just depends in were your getting it at..............
Reply:Well, I have a tongue,lab-ret[sort of the same as a monroe but on the bottom], my belly button done, my ears gauged, an industrial [barbell going through ear in two places] and two extra ear piercings. i told you that so i could tell you this:

yes, you can still use make up around your piercing, the ball the piercer gives you in the first place covers the hole and around the general area. it should not affect you at all to wear your make up. How long does it take to generally heal? well if you care for it properly, a lot of piercings like that tend to get infected if you take care of it, it should only take a few weeks to fully heal. You probably could do severe damage if you keep it in, i kept mine it when it started up an infection or I actually took it out with my piercer to thoroughly clean it but theyll tell you that you cant take it out for 90 days. my friend took hers out and let it heal and there was no scar it just healed up!!
Reply:Contrary to what some have said, you should keep makeup away from a fresh piercing. You want to keep it clean and free of anything that may "clog" or irritate your new piercing.

As with any body modification, the risk of infection or irritation is relative to your aftercare. As long as you keep it clean and follow your piercists aftercare, you should be fine.

If you have any other questions in the future, I suggest asking them at the BMEzine QOD. It is staffed by professional body modification artists who are always willing to help.
